🎉  We’re honored our work was selected for the October 2025 Psychiatric Services Editor’s Choice collection, “Community Correctional Care: Treating Justice-Involved Individuals Outside of Jail and Prison.”  

Our article, “Community Behavioral Health Service Use and Criminal Recidivism of People With Mental, Substance Use, and Co-occurring Disorders”, finds that engagement in community behavioral health services is linked to lower short-term reoffending among people with mental health and substance use conditions. The takeaway: strengthening community treatment and diversion options supports recovery and public safety, especially because most justice-involved adults are supervised in the community rather than incarcerated.
