New Preprint: Prosocial Identity & Youth Justice

We’re excited to share our new preprint: “Getting Specific about Prosocial Identity Development as a Key Target for Justice-Involved Youth.”

🔑 Key findings
• Prosocial identity predicts lower 1-yr recidivism (N=958), beyond demographics/SES.
• Other-oriented (care/compassion) identity outperforms conventional (rule-following) identity.
• Effects weren’t moderated by moral internalization, self-efficacy, or social support.

💡 Takeaway: Invest in programs that grow compassion and contribution; that facet of identity is the protective signal – especially for lower-risk youth.
