Luyi’s dissertation/project for the Behavioral Interventions Scholars (BIS) Grant Program is situated in the juvenile justice system and focuses on how positive youth development can promote desistance from antisocial behavior. The project leverages both developmental science (by focusing on identity development among young people) and clinical science (by focusing on how identity motivates behavior and how key aspects of identity can be shaped through intervention) to explore the extent to which justice-involved youth develop a prosocial identity or sense of self, and test the conditions under which prosocial identity can flourish and protect young people from reoffending. Findings from the project will inform behavioral interventions for at-risk and justice-involved youth.
