Designing a game to prevent aggression and promote choice

Working with youth to co-design an engaging app that increases thoughtful action in provocative situations

Young people are digital natives…and games provide immersive emotional experiences and unique learning opportunities.  In our “Playing for Change” initiative, we are partnering with local youth advisors, Richmond schools, coaches from Seneca Family of Agencies’ Unconditional Education program, and international experts at the Games for Emotional Health Lab. Using principles of design thinking and evidence on what works to prevent aggression and promote prosocial development, we are building a fun and helpful game that can expand the reach of prevention efforts. In Year 1, we’re working with young people to design the game. In Year 2, we will pilot test its fun and effectiveness.
