A new report from the Council of Criminal Justice found significant narrowing in Black-White imprisionment rates in 2000-2020.
The Council on Criminal Justice has released Justice System Disparities: Black-White National Imprisonment Trends, 2000-2020, which found that the gap between Black and White state imprisonment rates narrowed significantly over the first two decades of the 21st century. This report expands on the Council’s prior research on the relationship between rates of incarceration and supervision and disparities at a national level. Over the next year, the Committee plans to generate several reports on trends in correctional populations, and the impacts of state reforms on these populations.
